Both entities are building a physiotherapy center at the St. Rosaire hospital in Mbalmayo, to be able to rehabilitate more than 1.500 patients with various pathologies.
Despite having only 2% of the world’s cars, Africa is the continent with the most road accidents, accounting the 20% of all worlwide’s accidents. For this reason, many patients are admitted to hospitals requiring physiotherapy sessions. In addition, people with neurological, trauma or cardiac diseases also need rehabilitation services.
This underscores the importance of adequate facilities and equipment, which was not the case of St. Rosaire Hospital in Mbalmayo, located in the central region of the country, which was in overwhelming demand and had outdated equipments.
Thanks to the donation of the Barceló Foundation, which amounted 4.747 USD to the project, a 40 square meter room has been built next to the hospital and equipped with a stretcher, a vibromassager, an infrared lamp and a neurostimulator. A volunteer from the Recover Foundation has been in charge of training Patrick Essamal, the physiotherapist who will run the service, as well as the training program for 12 physiotherapy students who will do an internship at the hospital.
The creation of the new physiotherapy center will not only benefit the 1.500 patients of the hospital, both children and adults, also the maternity service which will be able to refer all cases of bronchial plexus paralysis registered in neonate and improve their health and quality of life.
