Expansion of educational provision in Burkina Faso

2020.03.04 //

The Barceló Foundation and Women of Burkina Association built a veranda for workshops at the Saaba Women’s Training Center, which has benefited 250 young people without resources.

The school, located at 14 kilometres from the Capital Ouagadougou, is run by the Religious of Mary Inmaculate that have been working since 1991 to empower vulnerable girls and women in Burkina Faso. Every year the center welcomes between 200 and 300 students, aged between 11 and 25 who have abandoned their studies because they don’t have economic means by they receive classes in literacy, general culture, human and religious training to be able to access at the labour market and have a better future.

The objective of the project was to set up an outdoor classroom to carry out the practical work of painting and soap production, since to use products with strong smell is not recommended in closed spaces.

Thanks to the Foundation, which has funded the 95% of the project, these needy young women now also have a hangar as a shaded area, a rest area in case they decide to stay at lunchtime in the dining room and for to do recreational activities during the weekends.

This Project has been carried out by the Burkina Women’s Association and the Barceló Foundation and has meant an extension of the educational offer in the country, which is so necessary due the lack of infrastructures in Education, the lack of training for teachers and the non-existent school didactic material.
