The Barceló Punta Umbría Beach Resort, located in Costa de la Luz (Huelva, Spain), has launched a fundraiser campaign whose proceeds will benefit our Foundation.
Daytime and evening entertainment activities are being held at the resort’s yearly pool party such as: Vegas-style weddings, an open-air village-like dance party… and for the little ones: facepainting, bouncing castle or even a fair’s typical food stalls.
Guests who have decided to take part and enjoy these activities bought their tickets for 1€, which will be destined to the construction of one of the water wells that the Foundation is building in Buyende, Uganda.
Since 2020, the Barceló Foundation has been developing clean water well projects in Uganda and Turkana (Kenya). By the end of 2021, a total of 76 wells will be in operation, which means that more than 50,000 people will have access to clean water.
Fresh water is necessary for the survival of all living organisms and also for the development of societies. At present, 297,000 children under the age of 5 die every year due to illnesses caused by the lack of drinkable water and 71% of the burden of collecting water falls on women and girls, who usually have to walk very long distances in order to get water (often not even clean, which affects their health negatively).
Thanks to the Barceló Punta Umbría Beach Resort and the generosity of their guests, 6,400€ were raised so a new clean water well is being built in Kaliro area (Buyende, Uganda) which will benefit directly more than 400 residents.
We would like to send our deepest gratitude and warm thanks to the hotel staff and clients, for helping us to continue with our projects, which aim to improve the quality of life and health of the most disadvantaged communities.
