Barceló Foundation, through the Alisol solidarity food program, has donated 1.500 liters of milk to the Food Bank of Las Palmas, which will be distributed among entities and people in vulnerable situations on the Canary Island.
“Thanks to the collaboration of the Garau Distribution Group we have been able to make a donation of almost 15.000 bottles of 100 grams of milk, which just a few days ago we delivered to the Food Bank of Las Palmas, in its warehouse in Mercalaspalmas”, explains Antonio Monjo, Managing Director of the Barceló Foundation.
Firstly, Barceló Foundation and the Food Bank of Las Palmas signed an agreement through which the Food Bank is committed to manage and channel the donation in the most efficient way possible, so that it reaches people in a situation of social vulnerability on the island in optimal conditions.
“The activity of the Alisol project is focused on Mallorca, where every week we distribute fresh food to 14 social entities, which only in 2020 have reached 6.650 people. However, whenever the opportunity is presented, we collaborate with entities from other territories, as in this case the Food Bank of Las Palmas”, points out Monjo.
For its part, from the Food Bank of Las Palmas, they have valued the donation of milk from the Barceló Foundation, in a particularly difficult time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
” In the name of all the volunteers that make up the Food Bank of Las Palmas we are grateful for this donation, which will serve the purposes of our association, especially in these critical times,” points out Pedro Llorca, president of the Food Bank of Las Palmas.
The Barceló Foundation launched the Alisol project in 2013 with the aim of responding to the needs of our closest environment and the increase in the number of families in vulnerable situations on our island. Through Alisol, fresh food is distributed to 14 social entities, which every week reach the homes of around 2.900 people who are living through very difficult times. Currently, every year this initiative of solidarity food distribution reaches more than 6.650 people in vulnerable situations.
