The Basilica of Sant Miquel in Palma completed its capacity last Thursday on the occasion of the polyphonic concert offered by the Capella Mallorquina, under the direction of José María Moreno.
Around 200 people did not want to miss the event and enjoyed a monographic program of Mozart’s music, whose central axis was the “Coronation Mass”, a masterpiece of his religious music together with the “Requiem”. As soloists, Cristina Van Roy, Gerónimo Seib, Marga Pons and José Martínez played, all of them accompanied on the piano by Alicia Moreno. “The concert was a great success and we sold out all the seats available for a recital that had a devoted audience, especially in the final part of the concert, during the Coronation Mass”, explains the director, Jose María Morena.
The money collected thanks to the solidarity donation of the ticket will go to the Alisol Food Delivery Program, which every week distributes fresh food to 14 entities that serve people in vulnerable situations.
If the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic does not prevent it, the Capella Mallorquina concerts sponsored by the Barceló Foundation will continue in the months of November and December. In November, in the Church of Santa Creu; and in December, in the Church of Santa Eulalia.
The Capella Mallorquina was founded in 1966 by B. Julià and since 1999 it has been directed by José María Moreno. With the sponsorship of the Barceló Foundation it develops a great variety of performances that consolidate it as a musical reference, with recognized national and international prestige.
Its staff ranges from 60 to 100 members and its musical activity includes concerts of sacred music, with a diversity of styles and musical periods, in which it has the collaboration of important national and international conductors, soloists and orchestras.
It is worth mentioning that the Capella Mallorquina Choir has performed in the main capitals of the world and throughout its history it has been recognized with such important awards as the Diploma of Honor from the City of Palma; the City of Palma Award; the Silver Medal of Tourism Promotion, the Medal of the Circle of Fine Arts or the Silver Siurell, among others.
