2019.07.15 //

More than a hundred people attended the closing concert of the second edition of the Youth Orchestral Encounter.

Relatives, friends and neighbors of the village, met last Saturday at the Convent of Sant Agustí of Felanitx, where the forty students between the ages of 8 and 14 years old, made known the knowledge gained in the field of orchestral practice throughout the course.

The children’s orchestra performed most varied pieces from classics such as the “Triumphal March” by Verdi’s opera Aida, to more modern works such as the “Strings of the world”, by Alexey Igudesma.

Challenge overcomes! Our purpose was to raise the level of what we achieved last year, and we have achieved it!”, says Angel Hernandez, director of the children’s orchestra.

Due to the loud ovation received by the audience they also offered an encore of the soundtrack of “Game of Thrones”. “When Mario started going to violin lessons, I never thought that one day I would play the song of my favorite series” – says one of the parents of the students – “thanks to the Barceló Foundation, for launching this initiative, because my son has been very happy this week.

For five days all of them had received classes from the hand of four professors specialized in the Venezuelan Orchestra System created by the maestro José Antonio Abreu. It is an exemplary educational and artistic project throughout the world that consists in teaching young people to work as a team. There are many musicians of international prestige who have been trained with this method, this is the case of Gustavo Dudamel, Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

I’ve never played in an orchestra before and it has been incredible. I knew that I liked to play alone, but now I like it much more as a team. Next year, I will repeat“, says Teresa, one of Encuentro students.

This initiative, was sponsored by the Barceló Foundation and was organized by the Professional Music Conservatory of Felanitx and with the collaboration of the City Council, aims to promote music, search for new talent and place Felanitx at the epicenter of the musical talent of our young people.
