Thanks to the initial support of the Barceló Foundation, the University Institute of Health Sciences Research of the University of the Balearic Islands developed a pharmaceutical product for the treatment of calciphylaxis, the first drug in the world to treat this disease.
The amount received by the University as royalties for a patent is the highest that the Spanish state has ever received for this concept.
In 2007, the Barceló Foundation decided to support research and granted a grant to develop a project to study the development of cardiovascular calcifications in dialysis patients.
We are proud to have been part of this project, which laid the foundations for the development of a unique drug in its speciality.
