The Majorcan choir, sponsored by the Barceló Foundation, celebrated a double performance this last weekend at the Son Mas Castle that marked the end of the musical confinement.
This Friday 24 and Saturday 25 July at 10 pm, the prestigious choir resumes its activity with this double concert in the cloister of the Castle, and following all the new health regulations issued by the Balearic authorities: limiting participation to 30 choir members, maintaining a safety distance and the obligatory use of a mask.
“Far from worsening the result, the use of the mask gives a velvet shade and a fabulous sonority to the sound of the choir” says José Maria Moreno, director of the Capella choir, who assures that during the months of confinement, they carried out virtual rehearsals to prepare this fantastic concert.
It was a great zarzuela gala in which all the assistants heared fragments of “El tambor de granaderos“, “Luisa Fernanda“, “Doña Francisquita“, “El último romántico“, “El Barberillo de Lavapiés“, “La tabernera del puerto” or “Gigantes y Cabezudos“. The composer Jacinto Guerrero was one of the protagonists, since three beautiful fragments of his zarzuela “La Rosa del azafrán” were performed.
The Capella Mallorquina have been accompanied by the Classical Orchestra of Majorca, the Andratx Municipal Choral and seven soloists; specifically, sopranos Gloria Berón, Marga Rodríguez, Elsa Salord and Catalina Bibiloni; tenors Gerónimo Seib and José Manuel Sánchez and baritone Pablo López. Certainly, a high-quality cast of Majorcan artists or residents of Majorca who delights the audience with their romances and duets.
