The Barceló Foundation collaborates with the Telephone of Hope

2020.03.17 //

For the third consecutive year, the Foundation financiates the project “User Service” to cover the costs of the training program for volunteers who attend to and help people in crisis from the other side of the phone 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

This is one of the 18 social projects of Majorca that the Barceló Foundation has decided to extend this 2020, with a total budget of 126.000 euros, which its president Maria Antonia Barceló was able to visit a few weeks ago.

Thanks to the help of our Foundation and “La Caixa” Social Work, this free telephone service last year dealt with more than 1.000 calls in the Balearic Islands, many of them related to issues of loneliness and suicide (the first unnatural death cause in Spain).

The Telephone of Hope, which will also celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, focuses its work on three areas of action: crisis intervention, promotion of emotional health and training of volunteers. In these 50 years they have answered more than 5 million calls, held 250.000 personal interviews, given 10.000 courses and workshops on emotional health and trained more than 25.000 volunteers nationwide.
