Mr. Gabriel Barceló Oliver, President of Honor of Barceló Hotels & Resorts, and founder of the Barceló Foundation celebrates 90 years today, May 24.
Born in Es Carritxó (Felanitx) in 1928, and being the first of four siblings, Don Gabriel began working as a child with his father, Simón Barceló, who started a small business transporting people, letters and packages with some small savings.
This small local business, thanks to the efforts of Don Gabriel and his brother Sebastián (deceased in 2009), has become today one of the most important touristic groups in Spain, with a presence in more than 20 countries, employing more than 30,000 people around the world.
His vision, ability to work and his courage were the foundations of the business project currently led by his son, Simón Pedro Barceló, and his nephew, Simón Barceló Tous.
Since his retirement, he has dedicated all his time, work and enthusiasm to the Barceló Foundation and to the care of the most disadvantaged. After 29 years of operation, the entity has developed more than 900 humanitarian projects in more than 35 countries, with an investment of 35 million euros and more than 1.5 million beneficiaries.
From the Barceló Foundation we want to thank Don Gabriel for having become an example for all of us who have the privilege of working side by side with him and telling him that we profess him a great love and admiration. Congratulations!
