Next May 30th the choir, sponsored by the Barceló Foundation, will not be able to offer its traditional concert in the Sanctuary of Sant Salvador due to the state of alarm by the COVID-19.
Since 1999 the last Saturday of May all the Felanitx’citizens had an unmissable event: the Capella Mallorquina concert in homage to the Mare de Déu de Sant Salvador, for which they have great devotion. But this year, unfortunately, the rules dictated by the Spanish authorities for the 2nd phase of de-escalation that begins next Monday 25th avoid meetings of more than 50 people in the consecrated temples, therefore, the choir has been forced to cancel its performance.
Its director, José Maria Moreno assures “it is a pity that after performing uninterruptedly in Felanitx for more than 20 years we had to suspend the concert, because we know how important it is for Don Gabriel Barceló and all his family, originally from Felanitx. But the Capella Mallorquina is already formed by more than 50 artists, so it is totally unfeasible to celebrate it“.
For this reason, the next perfomances of the choir (founded in 1966 by D. Bernat Julià) will have to be in open spaces, although with capacity limitations. Therefore, all the fans will be able to enjoy them on the 24th and 25th of July in Andratx, concerts that for now has been confirmed by the Capella.
