Today we will talk about the Farmasol Sire project. Which specializes in treating podoconiosis. It has been active since 2019 and close to €90,000 have been allocated.
Podoconiosis is a neglected disease in the Wollega region of Ethiopia. Due to the high silicon content in the soil. People who are in direct contact with the ground are severely affected by the disease. Furthermore, most of the people in the region are agricultural workers and therefore in close contact with the soil. Scarcity of water, poor hygiene, and a poor financial record compound the problem. The poor are the most affected and the disease affects all ages, including children.
The main result pursued by the project is the complete cure of patients. Then they can go back to normal life without the stigma. Their families are also relieved of the financial burden associated with the healing process.
